Women in Engineering and Aviation Day

Friday 21st June

10:00 – 16:00

Organised in collaboration with our Rolls Royce ambassadors, Women in Engineering and Aviation Day at the Emirates Aviation Experience was an event dedicated to celebrating female pioneers of the aviation and engineering industries.

Seventy five KS3 pupils from three London schools took part in three rotating sessions throughout the day. These sessions were:

  • Discover Our Engine with Rolls Royce – Four female ambassadors from Rolls Royce brought props, such as miniature models of Rolls Royce Trent 900 jet engine, to engage and explain with pupils, divided into small groups, how our engine works.
  • Discover our Aviation Pioneers – Pupils learnt about famous female pilots such as Amelia Earhart, who overcame adversity to achieve world firsts.
  • Simulators – Pupils took to the skies in our Airbus A380 and B777 flight simulators.

The pupils came away having learnt a lot and feeling inspired to take up careers in the aviation and engineering industries. Teachers ranked each aspect of the visit as excellent. Stay tuned for more information on next year’s event, taking place in June 2020.
